Since 1985 I am active as an artist in screenprint, painting. All my work can be put into three themes.
TREES is a theme in which I consider a tree as a historical and living document, for example the tree with the title "Somebody is watching you", tells my story of walking through woods in my childhood and constantly having the feeling
that everywhere behind trees are eyes watching me.
A second theme is "SEA", which refers also to my childhood, my father was a fanatic sailer and took me sailing a lot of times on the Ysselmeer, even in stormy weather we crossed the lake. The big waves and all the water around me made a huge impression that I tried to espress in "Windkracht 7" and "De drenkeling"
The third theme "OUTLAWED" expresses a lot of actual subjects like the vulnerability of children, like childlabour and abused children and the oppression of women.
Within this theme I made a documentary titled
"MY MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE"
The story is about artists who have a story to be told through their art and my story in the film is one about sexual abuse of children.

This Newsletter is all about film.
In October 2010 I made a start filming and interviewing a few engaged artists, who sometimes because of their art, have fled their country of origin. In late October I visited Kuona Trust Art Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, and filmed and interviewed also a few artists. I have now a lot of interesting material and it will take a year to edit it into
my documentary “a Message in a bottle” in which I want to make clear what the connection is between the artists and myself and what is my message in a bottle.
To be continued! Other trailers to watch: Coffee farmers in Kenya

From July 19th up to July 23rd I followed a five days workshop web film at
OPEN STUDIO in Amsterdam. For me it was very useful to practise again all the film skills before leaving to Nairobi, like the technics of shooting, light, sound, editing and interviews. At the end of the week I presented my item "The houseboot in the Amstel".

All the employees of the
FAIR TRADE SHOPS in the Netherlands had the opportunity to take part at several workshops. One of the workshops "AFRICAN ARCHITECTURE WITH WASTE MATERIALS" was given by me. The participants worked enthusiastic with all kind of materials like cardboard, rope, bicycle tyres and twigs. The result was a complete village of different coloured little houses.

The art sales at Hivos in the Hague resulted in just sufficient budget to realise my plan to film and interview artists in Nairobi. My main goal is to show what influence living in violent and dangerous circumstances has on the inspiration of artists. In the newsletter of September there will be a detailed plan of action.
I graduated very successfully in web design. I followed a one years professional web design education at the Media College in Rotterdam. It was hard work but the result is this inspirational web site about my work as an artist.
On the 5th of February 2010 my SALES Exhibition at the head office of Hivos in the Hague started. The benefits will be used to achieve my plan of interviewing and filming the artists in Nairobi.
2009. Inspired by my trip to Mali, Africa, I build my own "Tower of Babel". This tower is a village, build with numberless cardboard boxes, representing all kinds of cultures and religions. Have a look at my digitale

On the International women's day I joined a group of artists in an exhibition in the Scheltemacomplex in Leiden. This day was organized by the faculty of Theology. The theme was woman and religion, there were several speakers, musicians, art and discussions
